While the US & UK editions of Rolling Stone differed in terms of page count, layout and advertising, there’s no discernable difference in terms of the presentation of Fear & Loathing other than the cover page. And it is true the dialogue Benchley's puts in his character's mouths is not particularly natural and there are many redundant sections throughout. First off, yes - the movie is much better than the book - not because the book is awful, but rather because the movie is just so good and memorable. I read this book many years ago and knew it differed from the movie, but I thought it would be fun to listen to the audiobook version. I loved the evolution of their relationship. Her struggle was real and I sympathized with it. Same with Molly, who started out much like she'd been in the prequels and had more growing to do than anyone else. He's strong and intelligent but he's also flawed and he grows.
